TYLER, Texas – Two Panola County, Texas women have been sentenced to federal prison for drug trafficking violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales today.

Penni Sue Mooney, 48, of Carthage, Texas, pleaded guilty on Aug. 15, 2011, to conspiracy to possess pseudoephedrine with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine and was sentenced to 57 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Michael H. Schneider.

Connie Denise Parker, 48, of Deberry, Texas, pleaded guilty on Oct. 11, 2011, to possession of pseudoephedrine knowing that it will be used to manufacture methamphetamine and was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison today by Judge Schneider.

                According to information presented in court, on Mar. 21, 2010, Mooney purchased cold pills containing pseudoephedrine at a Rite-Aid store in Shreveport, LA, and attempted to make an additional purchase that same day in the area with intentions of bringing the cold pills to Panola County, Texas where they would be used to manufacture methamphetamine.  On Jan. 24, 2010, Parker purchased cold pills at a Walgreens store in Marshall, Texas, and made numerous other purchases on other occasions, all in furtherance of her methamphetamine manufacturing activities.  They were both named in a federal indictment returned by the grand jury on May 11, 2011, and charged with drug trafficking violations.

               This case was investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division and the Panola County Sheriff's Department.  This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Ann Cozby.
