Smith County Man Sentenced for Federal Drug Trafficking Violations

TYLER, Texas – A 29-year-old Tyler man has been sentenced to federal prison for drug trafficking in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales today.

Christopher Keith Browning pleaded guilty on Jan. 5, 2011, to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute crack cocaine and was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Leonard E. Davis.  Browning was also ordered to submit to forfeiture of firearms and $28,000.00 in currency and a $10,000.00 judgment.

            According to information presented in court, on Oct. 12, 2010, Browning and his co-defendants possessed marijuana, crack cocaine and methamphetamine with intentions to distribute the drugs in East Texas.  Browning admitted to being solely responsible for the distribution of more than 500 grams of crack cocaine throughout the East Texas area.  Co-defendant, Calvin Browning, was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison on Nov. 7, 2011.  Co-defendant, Latrice Whitaker, was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison on Jan. 10, 2012.  They had all been indicted by a federal grand jury on Jan. 5, 2011.

            This case was investigated by the DEA and the Tyler Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Baldwin.
