Keystone Man Guilty of Assisting in Killing Two Bull Elk

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Timmothy J. Burke, age 47, of Keystone, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on October 23, 2012, and pled guilty to an indictment that charged him with Unlawful Taking of Wildlife. The maximum penalty upon conviction is one year of imprisonment and/or a $100,000 fine.

In January 2012, Burked assisted another individual in unlawfully killing two bull elk at Wind Cave National Park. The investigation was conducted by the National Park Service, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman is prosecuting the case.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for January 11, 2013. The defendant was released on bond pending sentencing.
