Keystone Man Charged with Killing Two Elk

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Keystone man appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on August 29, 2012, and pled not guilty to an indictment that charged him with unlawfully shooting and killing two bull elk at Wind Cave National Park in January 2012.

Timmothy J. Burke, age 45, was indicted on May 15, 2012, for Unlawful Taking of Wildlife. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 1 year of imprisonment and/or a $100,000 fine. The charge is merely an accusation, and Burke is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by the National Park Service, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman is prosecuting the case. Burke was released on bond.
