Pine Ridge Man Sentenced for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Pine Ridge, South Dakota, man charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon was sentenced on July 30, 2012, by United States District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Eric Reyes, age 23, was sentenced to 27 months' imprisonment, 1 year of supervised release, and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

Reyes was indicted for Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon by a federal grand jury on December 20, 2011. The charge relates to Reyes using a knife to assault another person on November 5, 2011, at Mission Flat. Reyes pled guilty to the charge on April 10, 2012.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety.

Reyes was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshal.
