Rapid City Woman Sentenced for Theft from an Indian Tribal Organization

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Rapid City, South Dakota, woman charged with Theft from an Indian Tribal Organization was sentenced on July 6, 2012, by United States District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Deb Cuny, age 50, was sentenced to 2 years' probation and ordered to pay $8,935 in restitution to the Wounded Knee Community Development Corporation, as well as $100 to the Victim Assistance Fund.

On October 18, 2011, Cuny was indicted for embezzling more than $1,000 from the Wounded Knee Community Development Corporation between December 2010 and April 2011 while employed there. Cuny pled guilty to the charge on April 12, 2012.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety.
