Michigan Man Sentenced for Failure to Pay Legal Child Support

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Melvindale, Michigan, man charged with Failure to Pay Legal Child Support was sentenced on September 26, 2011, by Chief US District Judge Karen E. Schreier. Jason W. Beck, age 39, was sentenced to five years of probation, six months of community confinement, a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund, and child support restitution in the amount of $20,507.03.

Beck was indicted for failing to pay over $18,675 in child support arrears by a federal grand jury on January 4, 2011. He was ordered by the Second Judicial Circuit Court, Lincoln County, South Dakota, to pay $400 per month for his minor children, commencing November 1, 2006. At the time of indictment, he had not made a child support payment since July of 2007, and the total arrearage amount was $18,675.99. He pled guilty to charge on September 26, 2011.

This case was investigated the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. Assistant US Attorney Thomas J. Wright prosecuted the case.
