Man Sentenced for Failure to Pay Legal Child Support

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a San Diego, California, man charged with Failure to Pay Legal Child Support was sentenced on January 24, 2011, by US Magistrate Judge William D. Gerdes. Steven A. Hallauer, age 47, was sentenced to time served and a $10 special assessment to the Victim's Assistance Fund. Hallauer paid off all of his outstanding restitution prior to sentencing.
On July 8, 2008, Hallauer was indicted by a federal grand jury for failing to pay more than $13,000.00 in past due child support. At the time of Indictment, Hallauer had not made a child support payment since June of 2007. As of April 29, 2008, the total arrearage amount was $13,055.13. He pleaded guilty to the charge on January 24, 2011.
This case was investigated by the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. Assistant US Attorney Thomas J. Wright prosecuted the case.
