Bradford Man Charged With Mail Theft
ERIE, Pa. - A resident of Bradford, Pennsylvania, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Erie on charges of theft of mail, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
The two-count indictment named Dean Harry Meacham, 59, as the sole defendant.
According to the indictment presented to the court, on or about July 7 and July 21, 2011, Meacham, abstracted and removed from cards which had been entrusted to him and had come into his possession intended to be conveyed by mail, a Wal-Mart gift card, one $20 bill and one $5 bill.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of $500,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Marshall J. Piccinini is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The United States Postal Service, Office of Inspector General, conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
