ERIE, Pa. ‑ A resident of Titusville, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of misappropriation of postal funds, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.

Cortney M. Tarr, 28, pleaded guilty to one count before United States District Judge Sean J. McLaughlin.

In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that Tarr embezzled numerous postal money orders while she was employed as a Postmaster Relief employee.

Tarr's sentencing date is to be set.  The law provides for a total sentence of ten years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.  Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offense and the criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Assistant United States Attorney Marshall J. Piccinini is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.

The United States Postal Service, Office of Inspector General, conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Tarr.
