Judge Sentences Matriarch Of Heroin Dealing Family To 20 Years In Prison
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - A resident of Pittsburgh has been sentenced in federal court to 250 months in prison followed by 10 years supervised release on her conviction of conspiracy to violate federal narcotics laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
United States District Judge David S. Cercone imposed the sentence on Angie Lee Morgan, 54.
According to information presented to the court, between 1999 and 2008, Morgan conspired to distribute approximately 100 kilograms of heroin in Western Pennsylvania, which she obtained from a source of supply in Newark, New Jersey. Typically, Morgan would send couriers to New Jersey to obtain the heroin. The investigation of Morgan began with a seizure of approximately 11,000 bags of heroin by the Allegheny County Police on Jan. 6, 2005 in Monroeville.
Prior to imposing sentence, Judge Cercone stated that he found it disturbing that Morgan appeared to be looked upon as the matriarch of the family, but unfortunately her influence had a negative effect on the entire family.
Assistant United States Attorney Margaret E. Picking prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
U.S. Attorney Hickton commended the Allegheny County Police Department Narcotics Unit and the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Morgan.
