Guatemalan Charged With Re‑Entering U.S. Illegally
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. ‑ A citizen of Guatemala was indicted by a federal grand jury in Johnstown on a charge of re-entry of removed alien, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
The one-count indictment named Aura Marina Ajiatas-Sapon, 44.
According to the indictment presented to the court, on Feb. 24, 2011, Ajiatas-Sapon, an alien, who on July 26, 2010, had been previously deported and removed from the United States, knowingly and unlawfully re-entered the United States. She was found in Clearfield Co., Pa., without having applied for or having received permission from the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to re-enter the United States.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of two years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie L. Haines is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The United States Border Patrol and Pennsylvania State Police, Clearfield Barracks, conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
