Penn Hills Man Charged With Drug And Gun Law Violations
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Acting United States Attorney Robert S. Cessar announced today, May 26, 2010, that Paris Carter a/k/a Peany, of Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh for violating federal drug and firearms laws.
The four‑count indictment, returned on May 25, 2010, named Carter, age 20, as the sole defendant.
According to the indictment, Carter distributed heroin on November 24, 2008, February 24, 2009, and October 9, 2009, and possessed a firearm, namely a Ruger Mini‑14 .223 caliber assault-style rifle, in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
Assistant United States Attorney Gregory J. Nescott, who presented the case to the grand jury, indicated that the law provides for a maximum total sentence of 5 years to life in prison, a fine of $3,250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
