Removed Alien Sentenced For Illegally ReĀ­Entering U.S.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Acting United States Attorney Robert S. Cessar announced today, May 6, 2010, that Damian Benitez-Castro, of Mexico, pleaded guilty and was sentenced in federal court in Pittsburgh to time served and remanded to the custody of United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement ("ICE").

United States District Judge Donetta W. Ambrose imposed the sentence on Benitez-Castro, age 35 of Mexico.

According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney A. Elliot McLean, Benitez-Castro, an alien from Mexico, was removed from the United States on October 14, 2008, and then reentered the United States and was found in Allegheny County on or about March 8, 2010, without having applied for and received permission from the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.

Mr. Cessar commended the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Pittsburgh Police Department for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Benitez-Castro.
