Federal Inmate Admits Possessing Marijuana In Prison
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - Acting United States Attorney Robert S. Cessar announced today, June 29, 2010, that Miles F. Edwards, an inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution at Loretto, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in federal court in Johnstown to a charge of possession of contraband in prison.
Edwards, age 38, pleaded guilty before United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson.
In connection with the guilty plea, Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie L. Haines advised the court that on September 3, 2007, Edwards was in possession of marijuana.
Judge Gibson scheduled sentencing for October 28, 2010, at 9:30 A.M. The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 5 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offense and the criminal history of the defendant.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Laurel Highlands Resident Agency, along with the Federal Correctional Institution, Special Investigative Staff, Loretto, Pennsylvania, conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Edwards.
