Local Man Sentenced To Prison For Supervised Release Violation
PITTSBURGH, Pa. ‑ Acting United States Attorney Robert S. Cessar announced today, July 22, 2010, that on July 20, 2010, Dominick Tyree Howard, a resident of the Kelly Street area of the City of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court in Pittsburgh to two years in prison on his conviction of violation of his federal supervised release.
United States District Judge Donetta W. Ambrose imposed the sentence on Howard, age 26.
According to information presented to the court, Howard served a 51‑month sentence for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and was on three years supervision by the United States Probation Office. Court papers show that Howard possessed a firearm in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, on October 31, 2009; escaped from custody on November 17, 2009; failed to report to probation as required; failed to participate in treatment; failed to notify the probation office of his change in residence; and pointed a semi‑automatic handgun at the law enforcement officers that came to arrest him on April 26, 2010.
Assistant United States Attorney Ross E. Lenhardt noted that Judge Ambrose imposed the maximum sentence as a result of the defendant's violation of his supervised release.
Howard has charges pending in state and federal court for the October 31, 2009, November 17, 2009, and April 26, 2010 incidents.
Mr. Cessar commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the United States Marshal's Service, the Wilkinsburg Police Department and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Howard.
