Pittsburgh Man Sentenced To Prison For Aggravated Identity Theft
PITTSBURGH, Pa. ‑ Acting United States Attorney Robert S. Cessar announced today, July 9, 2010, that Alfonso Evans, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court in Pittsburgh to 39 months imprisonment on his conviction of Aggravated Identity Theft.
United States District Judge Terrence F. McVerry imposed the sentence on Evans, age 20.
According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Gregory C. Melucci, Evans along with Mark Mitchell and Ramar Grant conspired to use unauthorized credit card account numbers at various Giant Eagle GetGo and Rite Aid Pharmacy stores to obtain Only1 Visa debit cards, gift cards and merchandise. Evans also used the means of identification of another person in the commission of access device fraud.
Prior to imposing sentence, Judge McVerry considered the significant financial loss to the victims, as well as the nature of the crime.
Mr. Cessar commended the United States Postal Inspection Service, as well as officers from the Hopewell Township, Northern Regional and Allegheny County Police Departments for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Alfonso Evans.
