FiveTime Convicted Felon Sentenced To 15 Years In Prison For Possessing Loaded Weapon
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Acting United States Attorney Robert S. Cessar announced today, April 15, 2010, that Raymond Jackson, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court in Pittsburgh to 188 months in prison followed by five years supervised release on his conviction of violating federal firearms laws.
United States District Judge David S. Cercone imposed the sentence on Jackson, age 32.
According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Almon S. Burke, Jr., on April 23, 2008, Jackson, a five‑time convicted felon, possessed a loaded Springfield, .40 caliber pistol. Jackson was previously convicted in the Court of Common Pleas, Allegheny County, of the crimes of robbery, Conspiracy to Deliver Crack, Possession with Intent to Deliver Crack, Former Convict Not to Own or Possess a Firearm, Possession of Marijuana and Contraband Possessed by a Prisoner. These are all crimes that are punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year. Federal law prohibits anyone who has been convicted of a crime punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year to possess a firearm.
Prior to imposing sentence, Judge Cercone stated that Jackson had a lengthy criminal history of both violence and drugs, and that Jackson had served previous jail sentences and was still not deterred from continuing to commit further crimes.
This case was prosecuted under Project Safe Neighborhoods, a collaborative effort by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and communities to prevent, deter and prosecute gun crime.
Mr. Cessar commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Wilkinsburg Police Department for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Jackson.
