
Tax Charge Filed Against Accountant
Howard C. Lapensohn, 49, of Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, was charged today by Information with willfully failing to pay to the United States Treasury employment taxes that he had withheld from the wages of his employee, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger. Lapensohn, a certified public accountant, owns Lapenshohn & Associates in Philadelphia.
According to the information, Lapensohn withheld income taxes, FICA taxes and FUTA taxes from the wages of his employees, but did not pay the full amount of taxes withheld from the employee wages and, in some cases, failed to make any payments even when he filed the Form 941s.
If convicted, Lapensohn faces a maximum possible sentence of one year in prison, a fine of $100,000 and a $25.00 special assessment.
The case was investigated by Philadelpia Field Office of the Internal Revenue Service’s Criminal Investigation Division and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Floyd J. Miller.
