
June 15, 2007 - United States Attorney Patrick L. Meehantoday announced the filing of a four count Indictment* charging LEE PERSON, a/k/a “Darnell Ransaw,” and JONATHAN DAVIS with making false statements in connection with the acquisition of a firearm. LEE PERSON is also charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited felon, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(1)(A). Under federal law, convicted felons are prohibited from possessing firearms. The indictment alleges that on March 7 and 14, 2007, PERSON, a convicted felon who was prohibited from purchasing or possessing firearms, paid DAVIS $200 to straw purchase a total of 3 firearms for PERSON. The firearms that DAVIS bought for PERSON are: a Ruger, Model P-95, 9mm caliber, serial number 316-33407; a Ruger, Model P95, 9mm caliber pistol, serial number 314-86522; and a Taurus, Model 85UL, .38 caliber revolver, serial number RJ88241.
The total maximum penalty facing PERSON is 30 years, a fine of $1,000,000, 3 years supervised release, and a $400 special assessment. The total maximum penalty facing DAVIS is 10 years, a fine of $500,000, 3 years supervised release, and a $200 special assessment.
