Repeat Felon Sentenced to 24 Months in Federal Prison for Possessing a Stolen Pistol

Eugene, Ore. - On October 16, 2012, Gerardo Quintero, 30, of Ontario, Oregon, was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge Michael R. Hogan to 24 months in federal prison for felon in possession of a firearm. Upon his release from prison, Quintero will be on supervised release for three years.

On March 28, 2011, an Oregon State Police Trooper stopped a vehicle in which defendant was a passenger. A narcotics dog alerted on the vehicle and a stolen pistol, scales, and methamphetamine were located under defendant's seat. Defendant has prior felony convictions for criminal negligent homicide and felon in possession of a firearm, and is prohibited from possessing firearms.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Oregon State Police and the Ontario Police Department, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey S. Sweet.
