Federal Grand Jury Criminal Indictments Announced

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 5, 2011

Thomas Scott Woodward, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma, announces the results of the October 2011 Federal Grand Jury. The following named individuals have been charged with a federal crime or crimes by the return of an indictment by the Grand Jury. The return of an indictment is a method of informing the defendant of alleged violations which must be proven in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt to overcome the defendant's presumption of innocence.

Luis Alberto Mendoza-Lopez

Alien in the United States After Deportation. The defendant, of Mexico, was allegedly found in Tulsa County on November 2, 2009. He was previously removed and deported from the U.S. on December 21, 2001.

Israel Gaytan-Calderon

Possession of Firearm by Alien Illegally in the United States and Alien in the United States After Deportation. The defendant, of Mexico, was previously removed and deported from the United States on April 10, 2010. On July 12, 2011, he was allegedly in possession of a firearm while illegally in the United States.

Leonardo Ramos

Felon in Possession of Firearms and Possession of Unregistered Rifle Having a Barrel of Less Than 16 Inches in Length. Ramos, age 28, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, is charged with possessing three firearms after a previous felony conviction and with possession of an unregistered rifle with a barrel less than 16 inches long, both on May 18, 2011.

Johanna Sue Weaver

Theft of Stolen Mail Matter and Possession of Stolen Mail. Weaver, age 37, of Mannford, Oklahoma, is charged with stealing mail from an authorized mail depository on February 28, 2011, and being in possession of stolen mail matter on June 3, 2011.

Byron Franklin Simmons

Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute. Simmons, 31, of El Segunda, California, is accused of possessing 500 grams or more of cocaine with intent to distribute on September 4, 2011.

Sealed and Superseding Indictments

There were six indictments returned by the Grand Jury and two that remain sealed.
