Local Woman Guilty of Theft from Social Security Administration

United States Attorney Thomas Scott Woodward announced that a Tulsa woman entered a plea of guilty in federal court today for theft from the Social Security Administration.

Tonya Carter-Johnson, age 32, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Gregory K. Frizzell to a one count Information charging her with theft of money from the Social Security Administration.

Carter-Johnson’s mother had passed away in January 2007, and Carter-Johnson admitted that between February 2007 and November 2009, she took in excess of $20,000 in Social Security Widow Benefits intended for her deceased mother and deposited them into her own bank account.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph F. Wilson is prosecuting the case for the government. Sentencing is scheduled for August 11, 2010 at 2:30 p.m.
