Las Vegas, Nev. – Two Las Vegas men have been charged with conspiring to distribute significant quantities of the club drugs ecstasy and GHB, as well as cocaine, hydrocodone and marijuana in the Las Vegas area, announced Daniel G. Bogden, United States Attorney for the District of Nevada.

Scott Vasatis, 34, and John Pergola, 31, were indicted by the Federal Grand Jury on December 30, 2009, and charged with conspiracy, distribution, and possession with the intent to distribute approximately 4,800 tablets of MDMA (ecstasy), 203 grams of marijuana, 912 grams of GHB (used as an intoxicant and also known as the date rape drug), 209 grams of cocaine, and 100 tablets of hydrocodone (a painkiller). The indictment alleges the conspiracy began at a date unknown and continued until December 16, 2009. Vasatis and Pergola were arrested on December 16, 2009, in Las Vegas. They are currently detained and are scheduled for an arraignment before U.S. Magistrate Judge Leavitt on Friday, January 8, 2010, at 8:30 a.m.

If convicted, the defendants face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

This investigation is being led by the Drug Enforcement Administration and other agencies of the Nevada High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force (HIDTA), including the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Henderson Police Department, IRS Criminal Investigation, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Kishan Nair and Lucas Foletta.

The public is reminded that an indictment contains only charges and is not evidence of guilt. The defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial at which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
