Las Vegas, Nev. – A felon with a violent criminal history who was found guilty of possessing a shotgun at his Las Vegas apartment, has been sentenced to eight years in prison, announced U.S. Attorney Greg Brower of the District of Nevada.

Lorenzo Tucker, 34, of Las Vegas, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Kent J. Dawson on July 28, 2009. Tucker was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release and to participate in mental health treatment.

In September 2007, Nevada Parole and Probation officers received information that Tucker, who was on state probation for felony attempted child abuse and neglect, had changed his residence address without notifying his probation officer and possessed a shotgun at his apartment. On September 7, 2007, probation officers went to the apartment where Tucker was living and conducted a search. Officers found a 12-gauge shotgun in the master bedroom closet near the men's clothes. Tucker arrived at the apartment while the officers were there, and claimed that he did not own the shotgun and did not know that it was in his bedroom. Tucker was arrested, and on January 30, 2008, Tucker was indicted on federal charges of felon in possession of a firearm. On December 3, 2008, following a two-day trial, Tucker was found guilty of the charge.

Tucker has several prior felony convictions in Las Vegas. In March 1999, Tucker was convicted of Battery Domestic Violence for assaulting his girlfriend; in August 1999, Tucker was convicted of Battery with Substantial Bodily Harm for striking his girlfriend's co-worker in the face with a glass causing serious lacerations, and in January 2005, Tucker was convicted of Attempted Child Abuse and Neglect for beating his son with a belt causing injuries to his face, throat, shoulders, arms, back, abdomen, groin and buttocks.

The case was investigated by the Southern Nevada Project Safe Neighborhoods Task Force and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Amber M. Craig.
