Las Vegas, Nev. – Gregory A. Brower was sworn in on Monday, January 7, 2008, by Chief U.S. District Judge Roger L. Hunt as the United States Attorney for the District of Nevada.

"It is a great honor and privilege to return to my home state as the United States Attorney for the District of Nevada," said U.S. Attorney Brower. "I am humbled by the President's confidence in my ability to serve in this very important position at this critical time in our nation's history. I want to express my thanks to First Assistant United States Attorney Steven Myhre, who has served as Acting and Interim United States Attorney since March 1, 2007. Steve has done an outstanding job of managing the Office, as well as personally litigating cases on behalf of the United States, during this period of transition. I would also like to thank former United States Attorney Daniel G. Bogden for his many years of dedicated service to the District of Nevada."

Brower had been nominated by President George W. Bush in November and confirmed by the United States Senate on December 13, 2007. Prior to serving as United States Attorney, Brower served as General Counsel to the Government Printing Office and as the agency's Inspector General. He previously served at the U.S. Department of Justice where he was Legislative Counsel in the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys, managing Congressional Affairs for the 93 U.S. Attorneys Offices around the country. He also served as the office's liaison to other DOJ components, including the FBI, the Criminal Division, the Office of Legal Policy, and the Office of Legislative Affairs, working closely with those and other units on a wide range of criminal and civil law policy issues.

As a practicing attorney, Brower has more than 15 years of experience in civil litigation and administrative law. His prior public service also includes being twice elected to the Nevada State Legislature, and service on a variety of state and national task forces and commissions, including: National Commission on Uniform State Laws, Nevada State Sentencing Commission, Nevada State Juvenile Justice Commission, Nevada State Corrections Task Force, and the American Legislative Exchange Council's Civil Justice Task Force. He has also served on Capitol Hill as a Legislative Fellow, and served in the U.S. Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer. After growing up in Las Vegas, Brower received a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley and a law degree from The George Washington University. He is also a graduate of the Executive Program at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.

The District of Nevada comprises the entire state of Nevada, making it one of the largest of the 94 federal judicial districts. The United States Attorney's Office, with staffed offices in Las Vegas and Reno, has 41 attorneys and is responsible for conducting all criminal and civil litigation in the district involving the United States government.
