Man Charged with Two Armed Bank Robberies
Las Vegas, Nev. - A man who allegedly committed two armed bank robberies in Las Vegas in May 2004 and January 2005, has been indicted on federal bank robbery and firearm charges, announced Daniel G. Bogden, United States Attorney for the District of Nevada.
CHRISTOPHER ERIC CARTER, age 25, of Las Vegas, is charged with two counts of armed bank robbery and two counts of brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, for robbing the Citibank at 3990 South Maryland Parkway on May 18, 2004, and the Bank of Commerce at 5295 Decatur Avenue on January 31, 2005. CARTER is charged with robbing both banks by force, violence and intimidation using a Smith and Wesson 9 millimeter semi-automatic pistol.
If convicted, CARTER is facing up to 25 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each of the armed bank robbery charges, and a minimum of seven years in prison, which must run consecutive to any other period of imprisonment imposed, and a $250,000 fine on each of the brandishing charges.
CHRISTOPHER CARTER is in custody, and is scheduled to appear before United States Magistrate Judge Peggy A. Leen for an Initial Appearance hearing and Arraignment on Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at 3:00 p.m.
The investigation is being conducted by Special Agents with the FBI and Detectives with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas S. Dougherty.
The public is reminded that an indictment contains only charges and is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
