Reno, Nev. - Daniel G. Bogden, United States Attorney for the District of Nevada, Tom Cannon, Resident Agent-in-Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Reno Field Office, and Jerry Hoover, Chief of Police for the Reno Police Department, announce that JONATHAN C. ALLEN, age 38, a resident of Reno, Nevada, was sentenced to 80 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release for his guilty plea to being a felon in possession of a firearm. The sentence was handed down in Reno on March 18, 2003, by U.S. District Court Judge Howard D. McKibben.

According to the court records, on July 13, 2002, Reno Police Officers were dispatched to the Blue Cactus Bar in Reno, where they found JONATHAN C. ALLEN, a convicted felon, in possession of an Essex Arms .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol. Under Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(1), it is unlawful for any person who has been convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year to possess a firearm which has been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce.

In addition to the sentence, the defendant also forfeited the firearm as part of the plea agreement.
Special Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Officers with the Reno Police Department conducted the investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sue Fahami.
