Charlotte, N.C. – A federal grand jury, sitting in Charlotte, indicted Kelly McClain, 30, of Maiden, N.C. on March 22, 2012 on charges of possession of crack cocaine

LINCOLN CO. MAN INDICTED FOR POSSESSION OF CRACK COCAINE
WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A federal grand jury, sitting in Charlotte, indicted Kelly McClain, 30, of Maiden, N.C. on March 22, 2012 on charges of possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute announced Anne M. Tompkins, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. Joining U.S. Attorney Tompkins in making today’s announcement is Sheriff David M. Carpenter, of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the superseding indictment and court proceedings, on September 13, 2011, McClain was stopped by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputies and found to be in possession of crack cocaine. The defendant had his initial appearance in court today. A detention hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, March 27, 2012, in U.S. District Court in Charlotte.

The details contained in this indictment are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The investigation is being handled by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Maiden Police Department. The case against Kelly McClain is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Erin E. Comerford of the Western District of North Carolina.
