Former Albemarle Tax Preparer Indicted On Federal Income Tax Charges

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 11, 2009

Greensboro, N.C. – RONALD WAYNE BRYANT, 47, presently of Fort Mill, South Carolina, has been indicted on federal income tax charges, announced Anna Mills Wagoner, United States Attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina.

A thirteen-count indictment returned against BRYANT, an income tax return preparer, on February 24, 2009, charges him with claiming false income tax refunds for the years 2003-2006 on personal income tax returns he prepared and filed with the Internal Revenue Service for seven clients in the Middle District of North Carolina. The indictment alleges that BRYANT, a resident of Albemarle, North Carolina at the time, requested tax refunds for his clients that ranged from $2,171 to $8,694 and knew the refunds he claimed were materially false.

If convicted, BRYANT could be sentenced on each count charged to imprisonment for a period of not more than five years, a fine of not more than $250,000, and supervised release of three years.

The investigation of BRYANT was conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Internal Revenue Service.

The public is cautioned that an indictment is a formal method of issuing charges. It does not, in and of itself, create an inference of guilt. An individual is presumed innocent until such time, if ever, as the government establishes his or her guilt by competent evidence beyond a reasonable doubt.
