two jacksonville drug dealers sentenced to prison
NEW BERN - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court today JANEIRO BURGESS, 32, of Jacksonville, North Carolina and TONY JOHNSON, 46, of Lake Waccamaw, North Carolina, were sentenced by United States District Judge Louise W. Flanagan. BURGESS was sentenced to 262 months imprisonment followed by 8 years supervised release and JOHNSON was sentenced to 107 months imprisonment followed by 3 years supervised release for their roles as drug traffickers in the Eastern District of North Carolina.
On February 21, 2012, a Federal Grand Jury returned a Criminal Indictment that charged BURGESS with possessing with the intent to distribute 28 grams or more of crack cocaine and BURGESS and JOHNSON with multiple counts of distributing crack cocaine, all in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Section 841. On May 16, 2012, BURGESS pleaded guilty to possessing with the intent to distribute 28 grams or more of cocaine from October 19, 2011, up to and including November 9, 2011, and JOHNSON pleaded guilty to two counts of distributing a quantity of crack cocaine on October 22, 2011, and November 9, 2011.
The investigation revealed that from October 19, 2011, up to and including November 19, 2011, BURGESS engaged in multiple sales of crack cocaine. JOHNSON was involved in two of those drug transactions on October 22 and November 19, 2011. The investigation also revealed that BURGESS had been involved in the distribution of crack cocaine in the Jacksonville area since at least around 2005.
Investigation of this case was conducted by North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Jacksonville Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Rudy E. Renfer represented the government.
