WILMINGTON - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court yesterday ANDRE LAMANS MELCHOR, 27, pled guilty before Senior United States District Judge James C. Fox to unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(1).     According to the January 4, 2012, Superseding Criminal Indictment, MELCHOR was found in the possession of a Revlation 12-gauge shotgun on October 29, 2010.  MELCHOR is currently serving a state sentence for an unrelated offense. 

His previous felony convictions include numerous breaking and entering charges.    

At sentencing, set for the September 4, 2012, MELCHOR faces up to ten years imprisonment followed by up to three years supervised release.  If the Court deems MELCHOR an Armed Career Criminal, he faces up to a term of life imprisonment. 

This case was part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative which encourages federal, state, and local agencies to cooperate in a unified “team effort” against gun crime, targeting repeat offenders who continually plague their communities.

Investigation of this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Henderson Police Department.  Assistant United States Attorney S. Katherine Burnette is prosecuting the case.
