Dunn drug dealer received 10-year federal prison term
RALEIGH - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court on July 26, 2012, Chief United States District Judge James C. Dever III, sentenced JAYME GLEN ELEY, 23, of Dunn, North Carolina, to 120 months imprisonment.
A Federal Grand Jury returned a Criminal Indictment on December 21, 2011, charging ELEY with two counts of possessing with intent to distribute a quantity of marijuana and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. On February 24, 2012, ELEY pled guilty to all four counts.
According to evidence presented in court, in February, 2011, law enforcement received information that ELEY had been selling marijuana out of his Dunn residence. A search warrant was executed at the residence. In two vehicles parked at the residence during the time of the search warrant, officers found 257.5 grams of marijuana, a 9mm Ruger pistol, and a loaded magazine. Later that month as ELEY was approaching a driver’s license check point, he stopped his vehicle and tried to avoid the checkpoint. A chase by law enforcement ensued. During the chase, ELEY’s vehicle ran off the road and came to a stop. He then fled on foot, but officers were able to catch him and ELEY was arrested. On ELEY officers found $3,362.00 and 205 grams of marijuana. Inside the vehicle officers found a Helwan 9mm pistol.
On April 26, 2011, officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle driven by ELEY. Officers detected a strong odor of marijuana and observed marijuana in a plastic bag on the center console. Officers seized two bags of marijuana totaling 30 grams, a Lorcin .38 caliber pistol and $448.00.
On June 27, 2011, law enforcement received complaints about firecrackers being set off in a Dunn neighborhood. When responding to the call, officers noticed four individuals, one that tossed a marijuana blunt to the ground and ELEY with a large bulge in his pocket. As the officer searched ELEY, ELEY tried to run but the officer grabbed ELEY causing him to fall to the ground. A tussel ensued in which ELEY kept reaching into his pants’ pocket. The officer observed a Sterling Mark .38 caliber pistol, which was loaded, in ELEY’s hand. Officers were able to disarm ELEY.
Investigation of this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office, and the Dunn Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer E. Wells prosecuted the case.
