ZEBULON THIEF SENTENCED FOR CHARGE
RELATING TO HOME INVASIONS

GREENVILLE - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court yesterday Chief United State District Judge Louise W. Flanagan sentenced OSWALD MILES, JR., 22, of Zebulon, North Carolina, to 41 months’ imprisonment followed by three years’ supervised release. The Court also imposed restitution in the amount of $1,283.98.

A Criminal Information was filed on June 14, 2011, charging MILES with possession of stolen ammunition affecting commerce. On that same day, he pled guilty to the charge.

According to the investigation, on February 17, 2010, law enforcement responded to a call regarding a breaking and entering on Canterbury Drive in Zebulon. The resident was awakened by the sound of someone breaking into the residence through a rear bedroom window. The resident confronted MILES, telling him the police had been called. MILES fled the residence. When officer’s arrived they noticed an open window at the residence next door. Upon inspection it appeared that the television was missing from the living room.

Further investigation led officers to the residence of MILES on February 19, 2010. Officers searched the residence after being granted permission to enter and being told that MILES was not there. Officers found MILES hiding in the attic. As MILES was being removed from the attic numerous stolen shotgun sheels fell to the ground.

This case was part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative which encourages federal, state, and local agencies to cooperate in a unified “team effort” against gun crime, targeting repeat offenders who continually plague their communities.

Investigation of this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Zebulon Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney William Gilmore served as prosecutor for the government.
