TWO MORE PLEAD GUILTY TO WAYNE/WILSON-COUNTY ROBBERIES

RALEIGH - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court today ANTHONY DAVID BROWN, 23, and DERRICK DOVE, JR., 21, each pled guilty before Chief United State District Judge James C. Dever III, to conspiring to commit Hobbs Act robbery, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1951, and aiding and abetting the use of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 924(c). BROWN also pled guilty to an additional count of aiding and abetting the use of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

According to the Superseding Indictment that was returned on September 28, 2011, from January 25, 2010, to April 14, 2010, BROWN and DOVE along with their co-defendants, Ivory Javaughntae Harris, Malcolm Jamal Artis, Antonio Deonte Jones, and Domonic Devarrise Usher, committed ten robberies in Wayne and Wilson counties. The robberies occurred as follows:

On January 25, 2010, BROWN, Artis, Jones, and Usher, robbed the Dollar General Store on US Highway 13 in Goldsboro, North Carolina.

On January 27, 2010, BROWN and Usher robbed the Dollar General Store on George Street in Goldsboro, North Carolina.

On February 19, 2010, Artis, Harris, Jones, and Usher robbed the Dollar General Store on Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway in Wilson, North Carolina.

On February 23, 2010, BROWN, Artis, Harris, and Usher robbed the Dollar General Store on US Highway 117 in Goldsboro, North Carolina.

On Marsh 11, 2010, BROWN, Artis, DOVE, and Harris, robbed the Handi-Mart Store on US Highway 70 in Goldsboro, North Carolina.

On March 11, 2010, BROWN and Artis robbed the Pantry-Kangaroo Store on East Ash Street in Goldsboro, North Carolina.

And on April 14, 2010, BROWN and DOVE robbed the Family Dollar Store located on Dr. Donnie Jones Boulevard in Princeton, North Carolina. In the course of each of these robberies a firearm was used.

According to the investigation, in each robbery the same method was used–the defendants entered the store fully disguised, one defendant brandishing a handgun while the others seized the cash drawer from the register and/or cash from the safe, and then the robbers would flee in a car driven by a co-conspirator.

This case was part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative which encourages federal, state, and local agencies to cooperate in a unified “team effort” against gun crime, targeting repeat offenders who continually plague their communities.

At sentencing, each defendant faces up to 20 years’ imprisonment for the conspiracy charge and up to a life term of imprisonment consecutive to any other term of imprisonment imposed for each of the aiding and abetting charges.

Artis and Jones pled guilty on October 3, 2011, and their sentencings are currently set for February 6, 2012. On October 17, 2011, Harris pled guilty. His sentencing is also currently scheduled for February 6, 2012.
