WAKE COUNTY DRUG DEALER RECEIVES 22 YEARS FOR ROLE IN DRUG CONSPIRACY

GREENVILLE - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court today GAYBBRELL SHEREISE COFIELD, 34, of Holly Springs, North Carolina, was sentenced by United States District Judge Louise W. Flanagan for his role in a drug trafficking conspiracy that stretched from 1997 through 2009. COFIELD was sentenced to 264 months’ imprisonment followed by five years’ supervised release.

On March 3, 2010, COFIELD waived indictment and pled guilty pursuant to a Bill of Information charging him with conspiring to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base. The conspiracy is alleged to have begun in about April, 1997, and continued up to and including August 17, 2009. The investigation revealed that since 1997, up through 2009, COFIELD has been involved in drug distribution in Wake County. He would obtain powder cocaine from various sources and would cook the powder cocaine into crack cocaine for re-distribution to his customers. During this time, not only would COFIELD distribute crack cocaine, but he would also use other members of the conspiracy to pick-up, cook, and re-distribute the drugs for his benefit. All told, COFIELD is responsible for having distributed over 240 kilograms of crack and powder cocaine.

Investigation of this case was conducted by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the Wake County Sheriff’s Department and the Holly Springs Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Rudy E. Renfer represented the government.
