JACKSONVILLE DRUG DEALER SENTENCED

RALEIGH - United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court today OMAR TALIF JONES, 33, previously of Jacksonville, North Carolina, was sentenced by United States District Judge Terrence Boyle for his role in distributing crack cocaine in the Jacksonville area. JONES was sentenced to 144 months’ imprisonment followed by five years’ of supervised release. A Federal Grand Jury returned a Criminal Indictment on December 9, 2010, charging JONES with conspiring to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base, in violation of Title 21, Section 841. JONES pleaded guilty to the charge on July 19, 2011.

The investigation revealed that from 2008 up to and including February, 2010, JONES would obtain cocaine, crack cocaine and marijuana from various sources of supply in the Jacksonville area for re-distribution. As part of the investigation, multiple controlled purchases were made from JONES and a search of his residence led to the seizure of drugs, drug distribution paraphernalia, and stolen firearms. All told, JONES was held accountable for more than 4 kilograms of crack cocaine, 2 kilograms of powder cocaine, and 4 kilograms of marijuana.

Investigation of this case was conducted by the Jacksonville Police Department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Rudy E. Renfer represented the government.
