JACKSONVILLE MALE RECEIVES FEDERAL SENTENCE FOR

COUNTERFEIT INSTRUMENTS

WILMINGTON - United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court yesterday United States District Judge James C. Fox sentenced SHAWN PATRICK GREENE, 42, of Jacksonville, North Carolina, to 51 months’ imprisonment followed by three years supervised release.

A Federal Grand Jury returned a Criminal Indictment on July 9, 2009. On November 10, 2009, GREENE pled guilty to possession of counterfeit obligations.

Between April, 2008, and January, 2009, agents seized numerous packages containing fraudulent financial obligations which totaled in excess of $2.2 million.

Specifically, on May 20, 2008, the United States Secret Service received information from their New York office that a package addressed to GREENE and shipped from Nigeria through TNT Express, which contained $105,000 in counterfeit money orders, had been seized.

On June 2, 2008, agents conducted a controlled delivery of the package to the residence. GREENE, at home at the time, took receipt of the package. Agents then executed a search warrant of the residence. Agents found the opened package, along with numerous FedEx and UPS shipping supplies.

Investigation of this case was conducted by the United States Postal Inspection Service, the United States Secret Service and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. This case is being handled by the Office’s Economic Crimes Section, with Assistant United States Attorney Ethan Ontjes assigned as prosecutor.
