ELIZABETH CITY MAN SENTENCED FOR DRUG DEALING
RALEIGH - United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court today United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle sentenced LESLIE OWEN FEREBEE, 47, Elizabeth City, North Carolina, to 280 months imprisonment followed by 10 years supervised release.
A Federal Grand Jury returned a Criminal Indictment on February 24, 2010. On May 19, 2010, FEREBEE pled guilty to one count of conspiring to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base (crack) and 500 grams or more of cocaine, one count of distribution of 50 grams or more of cocaine base (crack), four counts of distribution of a quantity of cocaine base (crack), and one count of possessing with intent to distribute a quantity of cocaine base (crack) and a quantity of cocaine.
FEREBEE, also known as L.O., was initially arrested in 2006 after selling 53.8 grams of crack cocaine to a confidential informant. In 2008, FEREBEE signed a federal plea agreement. When law enforcement officers learned that FEREBEE had began selling drugs again, they utilized a confidential informant to make four controlled buys in 2009 in which FEREBEE sold or possessed varying amounts of crack cocaine totaling 40.2 grams. A search warrant of FEREBEE’s residence was executed on May 8, 2009. Seized from the residence were 5.3 grams of powder cocaine, 3.1 grams of crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, $469.00, and two firearms.
On March 17, 2010, a traffic stop was attempted of the vehicle FEREBEE was driving. As he pulled over and stopped, FEREBEE quickly left the vehicle and fled. FEREBEE was apprehended after a short foot chase. Officers recovered an amount of cocaine from the path FEREBEE had taken along with $4,772.00 from FEREBEE’s person.
Investigation of this case was conducted by the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office and the Camden County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Eric Goulian represented the government.
