Santiago Valdez Found Guilty in U.S. Federal Court

Bill Mercer, United States Attorney for the District of Montana, announced today that on February 10, 2009, in Billings, after a 1-day federal district court trial before U.S. District Judge Michael R. Hogan, SANTIAGO VALDEZ, a 53-year-old resident of Hardin, was found guilty of failure to register as a sexual offender. A sentencing date will be set at a later time. He is currently detained.

VALDEZ faces possible penalties of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and 3 years supervision.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Marcia K. Hurd prosecuted the case for the United States.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service.
