KANSAS CITY, Mo. – David M. Ketchmark, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that an Iowa man was indicted by a federal grand jury today for the armed robbery of National Bank of Kansas City.

Troy John Milani, 44, of Iowa, was charged in an indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Kansas City, Mo. Today’s indictment replaces a federal criminal complaint that was filed against Milani on April 3, 2012.

Today’s indictment alleges that Milani used a weapon to steal $2,330 from National Bank of Kansas City, 9750 N. Ash, Kansas City, Mo., on April 2, 2012.

According to an affidavit filed in support of the original criminal complaint, Milani placed a note on a teller counter at the bank and displayed what appeared to be a handgun. Milani allegedly ordered the teller to “Give me your money now!” According to the affidavit, the note contained the message: “You have 30 seconds to get 3500 counted out to me. If you fail, I start shooting. The clock’s ticking.”(sic)

As the teller reached into the drawer to get the money, the affidavit says, Milani repeatedly said, “More, More, More!” Milani allegedly threatened the teller, “Hurry up, or I’ll shoot.” Milani put the cash in his pocket, the affidavit says, then ran out the main doors of the bank and got into a Chrysler Sebring that was parked outside.

Police officers stopped Milani’s vehicle a short time later at the intersection of I-35 and Parvin Road, and he was arrested.

Ketchmark cautioned that the charge contained in this indictment is simply an accusation, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charge must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christina Y. Tabor. It was investigated by the FBI and the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department.
