alba man sentenced to 15 years in prison for three bank robberies
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – David M. Ketchmark, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that an Alba, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today for robbing three banks in Joplin, Mo., Webb City, Mo., and Springfield, Mo.
Michael D. Manis, 53, of Alba, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Richard E. Dorr to 15 years and eight months in federal prison without parole. The court ordered the federal sentence to be served consecutively to Manis’s sentence in the Missouri Department of Corrections. The court also ordered Manis to pay $16,000 in restitution.
Manis, who pleaded guilty on May 18, 2012, admitted that he used a weapon to rob U.S. Bank in Webb City on Feb. 14, 2012; Great Southern Bank in Springfield on Feb. 24, 2012; and Great Southern Bank in Joplin on March 14, 2012. According to court documents, Manis told law enforcement officers that he used a different pellet gun for each of the robberies.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James J. Kelleher. It was investigated by the Joplin, Mo., Police Department and the FBI.
