KANSAS MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO

MURDER-FOR-HIRE SCHEME


            KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Matt J. Whitworth, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Prairie Village, Kan., man pleaded guilty in federal court today to arranging the murder-for-hire of his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend.


            Doby S. McClellan, 30, of Prairie Village, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Dean Whipple this afternoon to using a cell phone and traveling across state lines to hire another person to commit murder.


            McClellan admitted that he sought to hire another person to murder Scott Strahl of Harrisonville, Mo. McClellan offered to pay someone $2,500 to kill Strahl, who was living with McClellan’s ex-girlfriend.


            Under federal statutes, McClellan is subject to a sentence of up to 10 years in federal prison without parole, plus a fine up to $250,000. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.


            This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christina Y. Tabor. It was investigated by the Mission, Kan., Police Department, the Harrisonville, Mo., Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
