Capitol Heights Felon Pleads Guilty to Selling Stolen Vehicles, and to Possessing Guns and Ammunition

Greenbelt, Maryland - Allen Darnell Evans, age 44, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, pleaded guilty today to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and to trafficking in stolen vehicles with altered vehicle identification numbers .

The guilty plea was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Edgar A. Domenech of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives -Washington Field Division; Chief Mark A. Magaw of the Prince George’s County Police Department; and Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela D. Alsobrooks.

According to his plea agreement, on March 29, 2011, police executed a search warrant at Evans’ house and a stolen Ford F-350 truck found on the premises which Evans had been using. Law enforcement seized a .44 caliber revolver; .25 caliber pistol; .45 caliber pistol; 5.56 mm caliber rifle; 9mm pistol; three rounds of .25 caliber ammunition; 70 rounds of 9mm caliber ammunition; 20 rounds of Winchester .44 caliber ammunition and six .44 caliber cartridge casings; 229 rounds of .45 caliber ammunition; 116 rounds of 5.56mm caliber ammunition; 30 rounds of .223 caliber ammunition; and 10 rounds of 12 gauge ammunition. Evans had previously been convicted of a felony and was prohibited from possessing guns and ammunition.

Additionally, from March 1, 2011 to April 30, 2011, Evans trafficked in stolen vehicles, knowing that the vehicle identification numbers had been altered, including a 2006 Mercedes Benz, Ford F-250 truck; 2004 Chevrolet Corvette; a 2007 Lexus; Ford F-450 dump truck; and the Ford F-350 truck that Evans was driving. During the scheme, Evans sold the stolen Ford F-250 truck for $20,000 and in April 2011, after the execution of the search warrant at his home, sold the stolen 2004 Chevrolet Corvette for $10,000 in cash. Evans also possessed labels and other items which he used to alter vehicle identification numbers. The retail value of the six stolen vehicles was between $120,000 and $200,000.

Evans will be required to forfeit the five guns and 21 types of ammunition seized from his premises, along with the six stolen vehicles described above.

Evans faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for possessing a gun and ammunition, and for selling stolen vehicles. Chief U.S. District Judge Deborah K. Chasanow scheduled sentencing for January 28, 2013.
