Lawrence Man Pleads Guilty to Distributing Heroin

BOSTON - A Lawrence man was convicted late yesterday in federal court of distributing heroin.

Angel Rosa, 44, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV to conspiracy to distribute more than one kilogram of heroin and five counts of distribution of heroin.

Between March and May 2011, Rosa engaged in five drug transactions with a cooperating witness in Lawrence and Clinton, Mass. Rosa was arrested following the final deal in Clinton on May 23, 2011, where one kilogram of heroin was exchanged.

Judge Saylor scheduled sentencing for Sept. 17, 2012. Rosa faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 10 years and up to life in prison, to be followed by at least five years of supervised release and a $10 million fine. Rosa also faces deportation following his release from prison.

United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and Kevin Lane, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration - Boston Field Division made the announcement. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Karin M. Bell of Ortiz’s Worcester Office.
