Boston - A pediatric endocrinologist was charged today with possessing and receiving child pornography.
Richard Keller, MD, 56, of Andover, was charged in an Indictment with two counts of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. Dr. Keller was a pediatric endocrinologist at Boston Children’s Hospital and a pediatrics instructor at Harvard Medical School. Before stepping down in 2011, Keller was the Medical Director at Phillips Academy for 19 years.
According to the Indictment filed today, Dr. Keller who was arrested in September 2012, possessed visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, including males between the ages of approximately seven to sixteen years old.
If convicted, Keller faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and up to 20 years in prison, to be followed by up to lifetime supervised release and a $250,000 fine on the charge of receipt of child pornography; if convicted of possession of child pornography, Keller faces a up to 10 years in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.
United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz; Kevin Niland, Inspector in Charge of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service; and Chief Brian J. Pattullo of the Andover Police Department made the announcement today. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stacy Dawson Belf of Ortiz’s Major Crimes Unit.
