BOSTON, Mass. - A Bridgeport, Conn. man pleaded guilty today in federal court in a murder-for-hire plot.

DORIAN J. MEMBRENO, 26, pleaded guilty before Judge Joseph L. Tauro to murder-for-hire as well as carrying, using or possessing a firearm in connection with a crime of violence. The offenses occurred in March 2010 in Pembroke, Mass.

Had the case proceeded to trial, the government’s evidence would have proven that MEMBRENO was hired by another individual to drive to Pembroke from Conn., on March 23, 2010, to kill the victim in exchange for receiving payment. When the victim pulled into the driveway of her residence that evening, MEMBRENO approached the vehicle and shot her multiple times. A short time later, MEMBRENO fled the scene and was stopped by Hanover, Mass. police. The firearm used to shoot the victim was recovered from the vehicle driven by MEMBRENO along with ammunition, photographs of the victim and driving directions from Connecticut to the victim’s place of employment in Hanover.

MEMBRENO is scheduled for sentencing on December 8. He faces up to 20 years in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000 on the murder for hire count. For the firearm count, he faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison to be followed by five years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000

Cruz; Colonel Marian J. McGovern, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police; Pembroke Police Chief Michael T. Ohrenberger; and Hanover Police Chief Walter L. Sweeney made the announcement today. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Sullivan in Ortiz’s Major Crimes Unit.
