FORMER LABORERS’ LOCAL 560 OFFICER PLEADS GUILTY TO RECEIVING PROHIBITED PAYMENTS FROM EMPLOYERS

Boston - A former Laborer’s Local 560 officer was convicted today in federal court after pleading guilty to receiving prohibited payments from employers.

Joseph Pavone, 54, of Waltham, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge George A. O’Toole, Jr. to receiving prohibited payments from employers. At the hearing, the Pavone admitted that, on three separate occasions between May 2007 and June 2008, while an officer of Laborers’ Local 560, he received approximately $6,467 from three different employers.

Pavone faces up to five years in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine on each of the two felony counts and up to one year in prison and a $100,000 fine on the misdemeanor count.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Labor Racketeering and Fraud Investigations and Office of Labor Management Standards. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura J. Kaplan in Ortiz’s Organized Crime Strike Force Unit.
