WORCESTER MAN CONVICTED OF CONSPIRACY TO DISTRIBUTE COCAINE
BOSTON, Mass. - A Worcester man was convicted today in federal court of Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine.
ERIC GONZALEZ, 35, was convicted by a jury sitting before U.S. District Judge F. Dennis Saylor, IV of Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine.
Evidence presented during the five day trial proved that between August and October of 2007 the defendant participated in a conspiracy to distribute cocaine. At the time of his arrest, agents recovered four kilograms of cocaine. Gonzalez phoned the source of the cocaine to finalize the details of the cocaine delivery. This phone call, as well as Gonzalez’s statements indicating his intent to provide two additional kilograms of cocaine, was recorded. Moments later the cocaine arrived and Gonzalez was arrested.
Judge Saylor scheduled sentencing for September 29th. GONZALEZ faces up to life in prison to be followed by 10 years of supervised release, and a $8 million fine.
United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and Steven W. Derr, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration in New England made the announcement today. The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Worcester High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Mark Grady and Cory Flashner, of Ortiz's Worcester Branch Unit.
