NORTH BROOKFIELD MAN SENTENCED FOR TAX EVASION
BOSTON, Mass. - A North Brookfield man was sentenced yesterday in federal court for federal tax evasion.
THOMAS RICKABY, 51, of North Brookfield, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Patti B. Saris to 36 months probation with 30 days of intermittent confinement for two counts of Income Tax Evasion.
RICKABY pled guilty on August 4, 2010. At the hearing the prosecutor outlined the evidence that RICKABY had failed to file federal tax returns for calendar years 1996 through 2005 even after the Internal Revenue Service served him with notices of delinquencies. Beginning in May of 2002 RICKABY subscribed to services offered by entities called Business Management Systems and Contract America, Ltd. to unlawfully conceal his income and assets from the Internal Revenue Service. RICKABY evaded payments for delinquent taxes from the earlier years and evaded assessment of taxes for the calendar year 2005.
United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz, John A. DiCicco, Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department’s Tax Division and William Offord, Special Agent in Charge of the Internal Revenue Service’s Criminal Investigation - Boston Field Division made the announcement today. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Victor A. Wild of Ortiz’s Economic Crimes Unit and Trial Attorneys John N. Kane, Jr. and Jeffrey Shih of the Department of Justice’s Tax Division.
